Meet the Community Health Workers of Aida & Azza Camp
Ayah Darwish
I chose to be a health worker because it is humanitarian work and sows hope among patients who suffer from chronic diseases. It leaves me with a sense of comfort when I contribute to changing a patient's health for the better, and I am a person who loves to help anyone who requests it.
Ashgan Ewies
A refugee from Allar village (Jerusalem District), I live in Aida refugee camp. I chose to work as a community health worker two years ago because it allows me to make a positive impact on the lives of patients. It also allows me to play an active role in society against the occupation that we live in as Palestinians, and enhances our resilience as refugees.

I choose to work as a health worker because it is humanitarian work through which we can provide health care to patients and improve our society’s health system. It also helps with the development of myself through work, and is a vehicle through which we can bring about change in society.
After volunteering for five years in the Environmental Unit of Lajee Center, I chose to serve as a community health worker because it allows me to serve the camp and help my community, which I love to do.
On pediatric cancer awareness day, I volunteered to be a clown to entertain the kids. I saw how happy the children became, and it made me feel a sense of peace and happiness of my own. After that I began volunteering for the summer camp in Lajee Center, before becoming a health worker. As someone studying to become a midwife, I really enjoy helping people in my community, especially our elders.
I choose to work as a community health worker to help my mother (she has diabetes) and to help my community for a better and healthier life.
I volunteered for the environment team and create writing team at Lajee for 4 years before joining the health team. I chose to be a community health worker for the sake of achieving physical and psychological health among patients, in addition to enhancing my self-confidence and serving my homeland.
I work in the Health Unit at Lajee Center in Aida Camp. My hope is to help people by providing the psychological and moral support they need while serving as community health workers.
I volunteered at the health unit of Lajee Center for three months before choosing to work as a community health worker. Given my training as a nurse, I enjoy being able to apply what I’ve learned in a way that allows me to contribute to society.
